Watch The Throne Tour: Recap and Pictures

Last Monday Night I had the pleasure of going to see Kanye West and Jay Z's Watch The Throne tour at the Boston Garden. The event lived up to the considerable hype; over the course of 2 hours and 40 minutes Yeezy and Jay had pretty much the entire crowd singing along to the monster chorus and finishing off the end lines of raps. The show started off with Jay Z and Kanye arriving on 2 giant cubes that doubled as video screens to the operatic menace of Leg Luger's "H.A.M."  beat and then segueing  into "Who Gonna Stop Me" and "Otis". While the crowd was up for those songs, they exploded when the lights dimmed and then Kanye came out for the first part of his solo set with "Can't Tell Me Nothing" and "Jesus Walks" the latter of which literally shook the building. For the next hour the 2 legends did mini solo sets of about 3 songs each and used songs like "Diamonds" remix and "Run This Town" that feature both of them as transition points between each other mini sets. There were almost too many classic moments too mention during this back and forth, but here are a few stand outs. Jay Z despite being over 40 still managed to rap every syllable perfectly of insanely fast "Jigga What, Jigga Who" (Political correct title of that song) and had the crowd doing the chorus. Throughout the entire show the lights were used to great effect with one of my personal favorites being after Jay Z just finished "Empire State of Mind" with even the Boston crowd singing along to the New York ode, the lights cut out of the entire building. Then we heard the single key hits that start off Kanye's "Runaway" with each hit of the piano key corresponding to one light flashing across the arena; then, as Kanye begins his first verse, he rises on the huge cube thing that is glowing red and causing Kanye to glow red as well; Kayne preformed and extended version of "Runaway" adding new lyrics that while kind of corny, fit Kanye's earnest persona like the refrain "If you love someone tonight, hold them real tight." That was followed by the crowd again singing along to Kanye's "Heartless" which led into the beat of "Stronger" which was reworked to sound more menacing for the show dropping along with a techno style light show which would make the boys of Daft Punk smile under their helmets. Another classic moment (obviously rehearsed but still cool) was after Kanye performed "Gold Digger" Jay appears talks to him a little about Gold Diggers and then says "If you're having girl problems, I feel bad for you son, I got 99 Problems but a bitch ain't one" and then the beat for 99 Problems drops and again the crowd goes crazy rapping along to each line with in the this case Kanye doing the lyrics of the cop who pulls Jay Z over in the second verse. The encore of the show was Jay Z and Kanye performing the latest single N***** In Paris literally 6 times in a row to set some sort of record for the tour so far. Overall it was an amazing night, I paid 60 dollars each for these tickets, but would have felt like I got my money's worth if I paid 4 times that amount.  Here are some pictures from the show:
