A Historic Night In Iowa?
Watching Romney and Santorum flip flop the lead in Iowa is like watching a really closely played but mostly meaningless April baseball game featuring 2 teams that I dislike. While it was interesting to have a close, there is a higher chance that we will see Rick Santorum singing Lady Gaga's Born This Way on an episode of Glee in 2013 than seeing him working in the Oval Office. The guy lost his last election by 18 points and has some serious viability issues when it comes to his positions. In addition, there were no moments like Obama's Iowa victory speech in 08 or Dean's meltown in 04 that will greatly shape the race. The biggest news is that Bachmann is dropping out and I think the less candidates in the race the worse it is for Romney. If he has to take someone on one on one after South Carolina it may be difficult for him because there is still a deep distrust of Romney in the electorate. I think the eventually guy to go one on one with Romney will be Rick Perry; while he has had major gaffes, in most races if you follow the money you will find out who will last the longest in a race and Perry has more money than anyone else challenging Romney.
